Meet Joshua

Joshua is a counsellor who works alongside people as they navigate the complexities and uncertainties of life. His work is grounded in a humanistic perspective, guided by the belief that meaningful change begins when people are supported to reconnect with their own strengths, understanding, and capacity for growth.

Before becoming a counsellor, Joshua spent several years working across mental health, youth support, and disability services. These experiences deepened his understanding of how complex and varied life’s challenges can be, and how important it is to meet people where they are, without assumptions or judgement.

His approach to counselling is person-centred, strengths-based, and trauma-informed. This means his work is guided by your unique needs, values, and goals, recognising that these are shaped by your individual experiences. Joshua is here to support you in finding clarity, building resilience, and discovering what balance and well-being looks like for you.

Joshua holds a Diploma of Counselling, a Diploma in Community Services, and Certificates III and IV in Physical Health and Fitness. He also trained in therapeutic crisis intervention and crisis management.
Currently, he is continuing his studies in Psychological Science at the University of Newcastle to continue expanding his knowledge and skills.

Modalities Used

Joshua works integratively, drawing from a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches. This allows his work to be tailored to your unique needs, goals, and preferences.

Person-Centred Therapy (PCT)
Also known as client-centred therapy, this approach is grounded in the belief that people have an innate capacity for growth and healing. Therapy focuses on creating a safe and supportive relationship where understanding and self-direction can emerge.

Trauma Informed Integrative Therapy
Combines elements from multiple therapeutic approaches, allowing therapy to be flexible, responsive, and tailored to the whole person rather than a single model.

Existential / Meaning-Based Work
Explores questions of meaning, identity, choice, and responsibility, supporting individuals to engage more deeply with what matters most in their lives.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT supports individuals to explore the relationship between thoughts, emotions and behaviours to develop more helpful ways of responding to challenges.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
DBT-informed work focuses on building skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance and navigating relationships more effectively.

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
A future-focused approach that emphasises strengths, goals and solutions rather than problems. SFBT is often helpful for short-term work or when support is sought around specific concerns.

Motivational Interviewing (MI)
A collaborative, goal-oriented approach that supports people to strengthen motivation and confidence for change, particularly when feeling ambivalent or stuck.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Encourages present-moment awareness and non-judgemental observation, often incorporating breathwork to support emotional regulation and clarity.

Timeline Therapy
Involves exploring past experiences to help release unhelpful emotional responses or limiting beliefs that may be influencing the present.

Narrative Therapy
Focuses on understanding how personal stories shape identity and experience, and supports people to
re-author their stories in ways that feel more empowering and aligned.
